Patrice Evra slammed by French football legends

The Manchester United defender skippered France during their disastrous World Cup campaign last summer. He also got a five-game ban for his part in the team going on strike. He has since been recalled, but stripped of the captaincy.

However the 30-year-old sparked outrage before Friday’s win over Albania.

He boasted: “It’s not easy to replace Patrice Evra as captain. People criticise me, but I’m hard to replace.”

Ex-Marseille boss Rolland Courbis fumed: “I’ve nicknamed Evra The Windbag – the moment a microphone appears, he hogs it.”

Former Paris St Germain coach Luis Fernandez said: “Evra is tired to the point of being burnt out.”

Louis Nicollin, president of Ligue 1 club Montpellier, raged: “Who the hell does Evra think he is? I wouldn’t have him at my club if he was offered for free.
