Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has not ruled out a sensational double swoop for Wesley Sneijder AND Samir Nasri.
The Reds boss has tracked both men all summer.
And after already lodging a bid of a around £18m for Manchester City target Nasri, he is ready to test Inter Milan’s resolve with a £35m move for Sneijder.
His intent to land the Dutch World Cup star could have a significant impact on their Eastlands neighbours, providing Inter with the funds to launch their own swoop for Carlos Tevez.
The cash-strapped Serie A giants know they have to sell before they can buy and are increasingly resigned to losing their star asset, Sneijder.
Inter’s board are set to meet on Tuesday when they are expected to give the green light to the sale of the former Real Madrid playmaker.
That would give them a significant financial boost to meet City’s £40m valuation of Tevez.
At the moment they cannot hope to afford the wantaway Argentine striker’s fee and wages of £230,000 a week.
Sneijder has been at the top of Ferguson’s wanted list since his stunning displays for Holland in last summer’s World Cup.
The 27-year-old is understood to prefer a move to Old Trafford, despite Chelsea also ready to pounce when his availability is confirmed.
Even if Ferguson succeeds in landing the man he has tracked for the past 12 months, he is not ready to turn his back on Nasri, who is also on Roberto Mancini's wishlist.
Fergie has been encouraged by suggestions the Arsenal midfielder favours United over rivals City, Chelsea and Inter.
United would be willing to up their initial offer for the French star – and could also wait until next summer when the 24-year-old becomes a free agent.
Arsenal are determined not to sell Nasri to United – but would be no more willing to see him go to City or Chelsea.
And while they do not want to lose him for nothing in 12 months time, but Arsene Wenger could yet let him run his contract down instead of seeing him leave in the same summer as Cesc Fabregas is expected to head to Barcelona.
