Hernandez has been likened to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after his first season at United, his youthful looks, innocent aura and that wonderful knack of appearing in the right place at the right time on the pitch all traits of the Norwegian legend.
Solskjaer was a proper goal poacher, giving defenders a torrid time on numerous occasions. Our new Mexican star has similar poacher-like qualities, as he proved to be the most dangerous United man in around the 6-yard box.
20 goals accumulated throughout the campaign last year and a staggering 14 we scored from positions within the 6-yard box. What’s also refreshing is the fact that Hernandez is (despite being right footed) scoring comfortably with his left and even more impressively, for his diminutive build, several key headers.
Maybe I’m getting a little ahead of steam, and should perhaps reserve some judgement on the little fella, but I can’t help but think that Fergie has unearthed an absolute gem of a player!
Highlighted again on International duty this summer, after the long haul of the club season, Hernandez was the Gold Cup’s top marksman, helping Mexico to their sixth Gold Cup triumph.
The 23 year old also has clear affection for United as the bond between fans and player increases. Shortly after joining United last summer, Hernandez told the media,
“Sir Alex is a great person and probably the best coach of all time. All my impressions of the team, the atmosphere at the club and the city are incredible.”
Extremely excited about how he fits into the team for the coming season – Will Berbatov be forced to sit on the bench? I don’t think even Sir Alex imagined Javier would have made such an instant impact to the English game, but as a result, he’s been left with a very tricky situation in juggling the up and coming star and the Premier League’s joint top goalscorer last season. Then again, it’s not such a bad problem, is it?
