Van der Sar has faith in De Gea

Edwin van der Sar is confident his replacement David de Gea can cope with the demands of being Manchester United's first-choice keeper. The veteran Dutchman quit at the end of last season, leaving Sir Alex Ferguson with a huge task in attempting to avoid the problems created when Peter Schmeichel left in 1999.

In the end, Ferguson plumped for De Gea, who may only be 20 but has already confirmed his status as one of the world's top keepers. De Gea was part of the Atletico Madrid side that defeated Fulham in the 2010 Europa League final and also helped Spain secure the European Under-21 Championship last month. And, on a United promotional tour of the Far East, the 40-year-old explained why he thinks De Gea will be a success. "They (United) scouted all over Europe and found a couple of targets and they chose de Gea," he told ESPN Star.

"Hopefully he's going to have a great career at Manchester United. "He's very talented. He's already won a trophy with Atletico Madrid and the Spain Under-21 team so the prospect of him doing well is there. "Everybody has to be his own person but I've met him. I've spoken to him and it looks to me as though he can handle it."
