The 19-year-old had been rumoured to be set for another loan or a permanent move away from Old Trafford after a disappointing season in which he scored only one goal in 21 appearances for United and Sampdoria, where he finished the season on loan.
His six-month stint with the Serie A side ended in disaster as Sampdoria were relegated but he will not be returning there to help them back up next season.
Macheda's agent, Giovanni Bia, told TMW: "Macheda will remain at Manchester United."
Sir Alex Ferguson looks set to have a surplus of forwards at his disposal next season with Danny Welbeck and Mame Diouf also due to return from loans to compete with the more experienced Wayne Rooney, Dimitar Berbatov, Javier Hernandez and Michael Owen next season.
However, Ferguson has promised to rest Hernandez at the start of the campaign following his hectic schedule of matches in the last two years.
