Patrice Evra believes the club’s trio of new signings will help Manchester United capture the Champions League next season.
The France full-back was part of Sir Alex Ferguson’s side that lost 3-1 in the final at Wembley to Barcelona in May.
Ferguson prioritised an overhaul of his squad in the aftermath of that defeat with £16million defender Phil Jones, £15m winger Ashley Young and £17.8m goalkeeper David de Gea all arriving so far this summer.
‘I think they are great signings,’ said Evra, speaking on a club trophy promotional tour in China.
‘We will give them all a nice welcome. I think they’ll be important and I’m very confident about the future.
‘After we lost the Champions League final I said that we had lost just a game.
‘But I’m confident about the future, especially with our great new signings, and I think we are going to win it next year.
‘We hope to retain the title but also to win the Champions League.’
In light of Manchester City’s interest, the Premier League champions are now set to step up their pursuit to land Arsenal’s Samir Nasri - a player Evra is certain would have an impact at Old Trafford.
Evra challenged his compatriot to abandon the north London club and compete for trophies at United.
He told Nasri, who has one year left to run on his contract at the Emirates, in May: ‘Each year you are playing to win. That is Manchester’s culture.
‘If he comes, he has to know there is no room for mistakes.’
It is understood Arsenal, who face losing captain Cesc Fabregas and full-back Gael Clichy, do not want Nasri to leave for their rivals and would rather sell him to Inter Milan if he rejects their offer to stay.
