Sir Alex Ferguson joins the beige buggy brigade


Sun hat? Check. Beige trousers and matching top? Check. Buggy to help you get around? Check. Everything a pensioner needs to enjoy a relaxing day out in the sun. But Sir Alex Ferguson is no ordinary golden oldie. The Manchester United boss appears to have found yet another way to help him stay ahead of the chasing pack. Easy rider: Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson scoots round the golf course at Northenden Fresh from strengthening his Premier League champions by spending ?50million on Phil Jones, Ashley Young and David De Gea, the 69-year-old Scot celebrated 25 years as Old Trafford chief at a charity golf day in Northenden, Manchester.


New Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas had just turned nine when Fergie left Aberdeen for Manchester but the former Dons boss proved he's still got as much drive as ever in his three-wheeled cart. Meanwhile, Ferguson will be made a doctor of the University of Stirling for his 'outstanding contribution' to sport. The visit will take Ferguson back to his footballing roots in central Scotland, where he played with Falkirk from 1969 to 1973. The university said the award will recognise Ferguson's 'great distinction in the field of sport and the general public arena'.

 He will be presented with his doctorate by the university chancellor, broadcaster James Naughtie.
