Berbatov's agent is expected to meet with club officials before the end of the month to seek clarification on the striker's situation at Old Trafford after a £17 million deal for Aston Villa winger Ashley Young was agreed earlier this week.
The former Tottenham and Bulgaria striker, who scored 22 goals in all competitions last season, has insisted that he wants to stay with the Premier League champions.
But Berbatov lost his place in the starting line-up to Javier Hernandez last season and was left out of Ferguson's Champions League final squad altogether and, with AC Milan, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Paris St Germain all keen on his services, he is now seeking assurances on his future.
Berbatov's representative Emil Danchev told the Daily Mirror: "We'll know more after we have talks with United, but Berbatov wants to stay and to keep winning trophies."
Berbatov joined United from Tottenham in 2008 and has since scored 42 league goals in 96 games.
