Manchester United could let Old Trafford’s Player’s Player of the Year, Nani, go as part of Sir Alex Ferguson’s summer rebuild.
Italian giants Inter Milan and Juventus are set to go head-to-head in a bid to land the 24-year-old Portuguese winger.
Inter hold the ace in the battle of the Serie A clubs knowing that the Reds are keen to make Wesley Sneijder their big name import during the close season.
Securing the services of the Dutch playmaker and using Nani as bait plus £10million would be sound business.
However, Juventus are planning a £100m-plus squad rebuild and coach Antonio Conte sees Nani as a £25m injection to reinvigorate the Old Lady.
Nani was the flair behind the Reds as they laid the groundwork early in the campaign for their record 19th title.
The winger’s initial impetus faded with the return of broken ankle victim Antonio Valencia as the Ecuadorian sparked United’s push for glory from mid-April onwards.
It forced Nani from his favoured right wing role onto the left and Fergie preferred Valencia’s more disciplined game to Nani’s often over elaborate style in away European matches.
The final signal that Nani was no longer the player of choice for such occasions came when Fergie left him on the bench for the Champions League final.
With left winger Ashley Young due to arrive at Old Trafford from Aston Villa, it further puts Nani’s position under threat.
United, meanwhile, look set to miss out to Barcelona in the race to sign Udinese’s Chilean winger Alexis Sanchez.
The 22-year-old is top of City and Chelsea’s list as well but has said he would prefer to switch to Barca.
