Phil Jones and Chris Smalling have vowed to show Manchester United their England U21 promise.
The Old Trafford pair were a rare bright spot in the early exit of Stuart Pearce’s side.
Jones is expecting an imminent phone call from his new boss Sir Alex Ferguson about the demands on him next season.
But he is relishing the challenge, and alongside the excellent Smalling they are confident of “taking their chances” in the first team.
Jones said: “I have got to go home first, go on a few holidays and chill out for a little bit. Hopefully I will get a call from the gaffer and I’m looking forward to that.
“Everyone knows United are one of the biggest clubs on the planet. It’s a massive move for me and I just can’t wait to get started. It’s a massive challenge.
“Chris is a fantastic player. I enjoy playing with him and we complement each other well. Hopefully we can do that in the future.
“Chris has shown that you can go in there and play games for United. He has done extremely well.
“The gaffer has shown he is not afraid to put young faces in the team. When I get the chance I am confident I will take it.”
Smalling was devastated by the late defeat to the Czech Republic.
He added: “You could argue if we had 1-2 more players we could have had different options, but we had a lot of options on the bench.
“The first two games weren’t good enough and we gave ourselves too much to do.
“As a back four we feel we’ve done well and restricted teams to not many chances.
“Losing really killed our tournament and killed everybody’s heads.”
