As we reported on Tuesday French outfit Paris Saint Germain, backed by oil-rich new owners from Qatar and with Leonardo set to take over as manager, are being tipped to test the water with a £10million bid for the Bulgarian, who scored 21 goals for United last season.
However, with the possibility of the Red Devils selling Berbatov, it has resulted in further speculation surrounding his future as German sides Bayern and Dortmund appear keen to take him back to the Bundesliga where he enjoyed success with Bayer Leverkusen. Italian giants AC Milan could also enter the battle for Berbatov's services if he gets the green light to depart Old Trafford.
Despite the reports of growing interest in Berbatov, the player's agent Emil Dantchev revealed at the weekend that there have been no approaches for the former Tottenham star, who joined United in a record £30.75million deal in 2008, and he confirmed the forward's desire to stay at Old Trafford.
Berbatov's future at United was cast into doubt at the end of last season when boss Sir Alex Ferguson favoured Javier Hernandez ahead of him in attack during the run-in and then left him out of his 18-man Champions League final squad to face Barcelona.
United have also failed to exercise the option to extend Berbatov's stay for another 12 months, but the player has always that he wants to stay put.
"I will stay," he said. "I will fight for the 20th title. If I were an easy quitter, I would never have made it this far. Everything at Manchester United starts from scratch for me on July 4."
